Our Purpose
The Gentilly Development District (GDD) provides cooperative economic development between the district, the State of Louisiana, the City of New Orleans, and the owners of businesses and property within the district in order to provide for renovation, restoration, beautification and development within the district. Created in 2008 through state legislation, GDD receives state funding annually to assist with beautification, economic development and crime prevention for the Greater Gentilly area.
Our Mission
To support the community of Greater Gentilly by investing annual funds in projects which will assist economic development, beautification, and crime prevention for the overall Greater Gentilly area.
Projects
Utility "Art Boxes"
GDD helped to commission local artists to hand-paint one-of-a-kind artworks on nearly 50 utility boxes across Gentilly.
Completed or planned projects for 2021
- Monument Welcome Signs at four (4) of the main entrances to Gentilly
- Utility Art Boxes
- Pole Banners along Gentilly Boulevard
- Website launch to better communicate with the community
- Murals on two (2) major overpasses to help combat graffiti
- Historic signage for Pontchartrain Park
- Landscaping at the welcome signs and other community areas
Additional projects funded by GDD include the renovation of the Milne Boy’s Home and Crime Cameras for Gentilly.
We look forward to continuing our commitment to the people of Gentilly.
Sincerely,
Senator Joe Bouie, Chairman
